Paani Peelo is designed to know as little about you as possible.

On your computer

Your settings and your water log (how many glasses you drank and snoozed each day) are stored only on your computer. They are never uploaded.

Voice recordings

You can give a character a real voice: record a line with your computer’s microphone, or add a sound file such as a WhatsApp voice note. The microphone is used only while you are recording. What you record or add is kept only on your computer, in Paani Peelo’s own folder, and is never uploaded. Deleting a recording in Settings removes it for good.

Free trial

A copy of the app that offers a free trial tells our server once that the trial has started on your computer, so that the same computer is not given a second one. It sends an anonymous device identifier (a one-way hash, not your hardware serial number), your operating system, the app version, and whether the copy came from this website or the Microsoft Store. We keep those with the date the trial started, and nothing else: no name, no email address and not your computer’s name. While a trial is running the app also asks this website how long a trial is and what a license costs; those two requests say nothing about you or your computer. The Mac App Store version has no free trial and sends none of this.

License activation

To activate and occasionally re-check your license, the app sends our license server:

• your license key,
• an anonymous device identifier (a one-way hash, not your hardware serial number),
• the kind of computer (a Mac or a Windows PC), its operating system and the app version.

Versions before 1.4.0 also sent your computer’s name; our server neither keeps it nor passes it on. We pass the key and a neutral device label (such as “Mac #a1b2c3”) to our payment provider, which keeps track of how many computers use the key. We also keep a record of each check — the anonymous device identifier, operating system, app version and whether it succeeded — so we can count how many copies are in use and which versions still need supporting. Your water log and settings are never sent; nothing else leaves your computer.

The Mac App Store version has no license key — it is bought through Apple — so it sends none of this: it never contacts our server at all.

Update check

Once a day the app checks whether a newer version is out, with whoever it came from: a copy downloaded from this website asks this website, the Mac App Store version asks Apple’s App Store, and the Microsoft Store version asks the Microsoft Store. The check sends nothing about you or your computer, and nothing is downloaded or installed unless you choose to update.

Payments

Purchases on this website are handled by our payment provider (Polar), which acts as the merchant of record. They process your payment details; we receive your name, email address and order details so we can support you. Purchases on the Mac App Store are made with Apple, which does not tell us who bought.

This website

We count visits with our own counter, which uses no cookies and stores no IP addresses. For each page view it keeps the page, the site you came from, and whether you are on a Mac, Windows or a phone. To tell one visit from another it keeps an anonymous code made from your connection and a random value that is replaced every day and then deleted — so today’s visit cannot be linked to yesterday’s, or traced back to you. It also notes whether the pricing section was seen and the Buy button clicked, and counts downloads the same way. If your browser sends Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control, the counter does nothing.

If you join the waitlist, we keep your email address only to tell you about new releases, and you can ask us to delete it at any time.

Feedback

If you send us feedback from this website, we keep what you sent: the topic, your rating, your message, which copy of the app you use and its version, your email address if you gave one, and a screenshot if you attached one. We don’t keep your IP address or browser details with it. A copy without the screenshot may go to our own inbox, so we see it sooner.

We use your feedback only to improve Paani Peelo and, if you gave your email, to reply. It is never shared or used for marketing. To have something you sent deleted, write to us at the address below.
